HONEYBROWNE: blog

Hope this blog finds you well. Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by Ike. We are headed up to Stillwater, OK as I type this. It’s been a while since we played in Stillwater. The name of the club is the Copper Penny. Next, we drive to Manhattan, KS to Play a show with Kevin Fowler at the Longhorn Saloon. First time in the joint for the HB. Then we drive to Paris, TX for our last show of the weekend at Crosswire. Should be a good weekend of shows. I’ll let you know!!

Little shake up in the band, Stephen our drummer for over a year, is now attending law school at St. Mary’s in San Antonio. We are very fortunate to pick our new drummer, Mike Henretty. Mike has been in the Scene for quite awhile. He has played with Drew Womack, Jack Ingram, and most recently with Brandon Ryder. Mike brings tons of experience and awesome grove to the band. If you have the chance, walk up and welcome him into the band.

Mile by Mile continues to get over 1000 radio spins/week just in Texas. The next single, Put That Ring Back On Your Finger, will be released later this year. With such great success with MBM, Ring should move up the charts with lighting speed. Thank you for all the calls made to your local radio stations requesting MBM.

South Texas seems to like our New CD as well. We had close to 500 people at Schroeder Hall last weekend. That is the most people we have had in Victoria. Thanks to JR and Anne Hudson at Kicks 108 in Victoria for pumping up the show.

We got Our first not-so-good review!!! Thank god this the only guy so far who doesn't like our CD!!!

Country
Honeybrowne "Mile by Mile” (Smith Entertainment)
If the Texas country music scene were a high school, Honeybrowne would be the likable kid who's friends with both the jocks and the art teacher.
Long-touring troubadours south of the Red River, Honeybrowne have built a loyal, if modest, following with their laid-back brand of Texas country.
There's nothing particularly remarkable about "Mile by Mile,” a 10-song collection of sleepy tunes bearing infectious hooks and lovesick lyrics. But the album is good wallpaper for a road trip or garage card game, the type of music that inspires and offends no one.
Band leader and vocalist Fred Andrews sounds vaguely like Jerry Jeff Walker with his charming and warbled vocals that always sound as if they're one beat behind the music.
He weaves through tunes such as "Yesterday's News” and "Bowling Green” without effort, backed by a sound reminiscent of the early Eagles. "Love Wanted” is a nifty play on searching for love and employment and "Line, Sinker and Hook” reverses the cliche with ease.
"Mile by Mile” and all of Honeybrowne's music is the mellow alternative for the Texas country fan who likes a dash of sensitivity with his Lonestar beer.
Amarillo In the Morning!

I think there is some kinda song that sorta starts that way!! Good morning everybody, it's Saturday and I can't wait to watch some college football. We had a good show at the Golden Light in Amarillo last night. Our Friend Travis Linville played the show with us and will again play tonight in Lubbock. We always enjoy the Blue Light, so I am looking forward to it. Our single is still moving up the charts! #8 on the Texas music chart and # 17 on the national Americana chart. Thanks for calling stations if you have and If you haven't, help a brother out!!!! We have done so well moving up these charts. We are up against big labels that have lots of money and can get crap played. We are not on a big label and don't have lots of money. Hats off to the great stations playing our music. It really takes big balls from a Program or Music Director to add a song like 'Mile by Mile' to the rotation of top 40 country. Many times it might mean a thrashing from the Boss, but they are listening to you want to hear!! Or what they want to hear!! I guess my whole point is that I love listening to the radio, better than CD's or an Ipod. I love the way the compression works to make the songs pop out of the speakers. I love the DJ's voice, so much I married one. I especially love hearing a song I wrote and Sang! Probably one of the best feelings ever. I remember the very first time I heard myself singing on the radio. It was in 1996 from a live songwriter show. I'm sure if I heard it today I might not thing too highly of the performance but back then it was great!!! I turned it up as loud as my speakers could handle and pulled into a 7-11 and rolled down all the windows. Just waiting for someone to ask me who that was singing. No one asked but it still sounded wonderful. We got well over 1000 spins last week alone and I still get that same sense of pride and accomplishment every time. OK I have rambled enough. Have a great weekend.

When you have a min. Call and request honeybrowne's new single. This page will send you to a list of stations
We are a dark and mysterious bunch of troubadours and vagabonds - At least that’s the way I thought of us, when I heard that there were rumors that we’d broken up. Someone (or something?) has tried to bamboozle us, but we never even broke stride. So let it die right here. We’re very much alive… in fact we love life SO much we just brought two more humans into the world just to prove it! We’ve been out playing shows, starting families, and recording a brand new Honeybrowne record that we’re very excited about. It’s called “Mile by Mile”, and we hope that you get your hands on one when it’s released in June.
We’ve been playing 2 to 3 shows per week, working feverishly during the week writing songs, and recording hits for your future listening pleasure. We are stoked - and can’t wait for everyone to hear it!!!!!
Pre-production started last year at Freddy’s house with songwriting rehearsals and demos were cut. We realized along the way that Fred’s living room was a wonderful space to cut drums, so earlier this year we had an engineer (Adam Odor) and our producer come out to Fred’s with a lot of recording gear and we tracked the drums right in the middle of his house. (Thanks Anne.) This ended up costing us a bit more, but we’re kind of audio geeks, and so we splurged. This laid back environment was accommodating during the day and lent itself to licentiousness with wine in the evenings. Ah, memories...
Most recently we’ve been tracking at the beautiful Aerie Studio in Austin, with Mark Addison at the helm. Bass was actually recorded at both locations, while guitar/ keys/ vox have been almost tracked exclusively at Addison’s studio. Damn, recording is fun! Especially when your done tracking drums and you get to mess with everyone else.
We’re in love with the new stuff and can’t wait to work it into the live shows. Like I mentioned, we’re releasing it in June, so keep your eyes peeled to the entertainment paper, your email, or our website for updates on CD Release Shows, radio performances, and in-stores. And for God’s sake, if we’re in your neck of the woods before then, come out and see us then too!
“Mile by Mile” is a record of new material that covers a lot of musical ground and shows the handy work of the different personalities in this band. There is something on it for everyone, and damn it, you can dance to it! (and I love exclamation points!!!!) Hell, people might even stop yelling “Texas Angel” as much at our shows; clamoring instead to here their NEW favorite song off “Mile by Mile”, who knows?
Either way - thanks for your continued interest in HONEYBROWNE, and we hope you check back in with us soon for the latest scoop.
All the best,
- Stephen Bres-
